Today during the Street Fighter 5 Winter Update, Capcom showcased how Rose would play in the game when she's released. A number of Rose's past attacks would be in this game as well, including her Soul Satellite, Soul Spiral, and some old moves will have new spins on them including her receiving an air fireball.

Rose is heavily based around zoning with her moves, setting up traps and pressure with her specials. She appears to be a character who can dance around the screen with her moves, making traversing through her defenses a costly and treacherous ordeal. She will also come alongside a new stage Marina of Fortune, which is a refined version of the stage which appeared in Street Fighter Alpha 2.

Rose will no longer have her Soul Throw move, which is being replaced by an attack where she throws her scarf into the air, which is called Soul Bind. It also looks like Rose's standing medium kick attack from Street Fighter 4 is returning, as this enabled her to go above low attacks. Her Soul Piede, which is a long range kick performed by pressing Toward + Heavy Kick also is returning.

Overall, Rose has a mixture of past moves that have been recreated, along with some brand new attacks. From the animations alone, it's very clear that she no longer has the extremely long range kicks she previously enjoyed in the prior Street Fighter titles.

To make up for this though, it seems like Capcom gave her things like an improved Standing Heavy Punch, where the scarf looks to have excellent range. This attack is now called the Soul Breeze.

Rose's slide (Down-Toward + Medium Kick) is back and 'in good shape,' plus the developers said it works well in conjunction with her V-Skills and V-Triggers.

Her Soul Spark (fireball) returns and can be used how it was traditionally, but she can also now perform this special in the air. The strength of the button pressed will control the angle at which this projectile comes out, when used while airborne.

A brand new attack is her Soul Punish, which is a stationary fireball trap she puts on screen that explodes after a period of time.

Rose's V-Skill 1 has her pull a Tarot Card, to increase various attributes of hers — or make the opponent weaker. In one of the examples shown, Rose is able to pull a Tarot Card and fill up her V-Gauge slowly. Her V-Skill 2 is her Soul Satellite which was previously her Ultra 2 in the Street Fighter 4 series. Her V-Skill 2 makes Orbs float around her body, which she can use for defense, or to spin into the opponent for combos and things. She can have a maximum of two V-Skill Orbs on her body at one time.

Both of Rose's V-Triggers are currently two bars. Her V-Trigger 1 is a time-based warp move, where Rose can appear on various spots on screen, including mid-air. Her V-Trigger 2 is the Soul Illusion, which was very popular back in the Alpha days, and it's most akin to Yun's Genei Jin, where a shadow follows her movements and attacks alongside her for big damage.

Rose's origins and history

Rose made her debut in Street Fighter Alpha back in 1995. She would appear in the other future Alpha games (Zero in Japan), along with Street Fighter 4 in 2009, as one of the initially console exclusive characters on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

She's often been based around attacks with her scarf, which she channels her Soul Power into. Soul Power is the opposite of Psycho Power, which M. Bison uses. Rose is constantly on the hunt to track down and end Bison, but also actively seeks to aid Ryu in his battle. She's rumored to be in a romantic relationship with Guy from the Final Fight series.

The fortune teller is heavily based off of Lisa Lisa from the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure franchise. Rose hails from Venice, Italy, which is the same city that Joseph Joestar originally encounters Lisa Lisa. The name itself Lisa Lisa comes from the American singer who rose to prominence in the 1980s with hits like 'Skip to My Lu' and 'When I Fell in Love'.

Menat is the apprentice of Rose, where she made her first appearance in the Street Fighter franchise back in 2017 in the fifth entry in the series. Rose has heavy ties to the some key elements of Street Fighter 5's story, and will likely help clarify G's role as a boss character in the game, when her story mode is available.

During today's showcase, it was stated all of the things shown were based on a build recorded back in December, maybe as much as two months ago. As such, many things could change between now and when this content is actually released.
